The visualisation draws on the ECB's who to whom data.
It shows sectoral exposures for the selected region (default: Euro Area), asset (default: total) and period (default: 2017/12).
Arrows run from providers of financing to recipients. An example: An arrow from 'mfi' to 'nfc' indicates
the amount of funding mfis have provided to nfcs.
Values are shown in Euro billions.
Nodes
- Size: No value (default), total assets or total liabilities of the sector.
The size of the rest of the world node is fixed at 5 trillion to allow for the comparison of absolute sizes.
- Colour: Economic group (banks as producers of money in bright blue,
the financial sector in dark blue, the real economy in dark green, and the rest of the world in turquoise).
Selecting a node highlights the node and all in- and outgoing edges
- Position: Economic group
- Scale: Allows the user to change the minimum and maxium size for nodes
Edges
- Size: Absolute exposure size (default) or change to selected reference period
- Colour: Can be changed to indicate trend to reference period. Green: Increase. Red: Decrease. Grey: No information
- Highlight: The largest three edges can be highlighted in yellow
- Scale: Allows the user to change the minimum and maxium size for edges
Analysis
- Herfindahl index of all exposures in the network displayed
- Ratio: Allows the user to compare any elements of the visualisation by selecting the former
