Explanation

The visualisation shows the consolidated balance sheet of the Euro Area banking sector (Monetary Financial Institutions). It is based on the ECB's Who to Whom Data. No intra-group positions are shown. Assets are shown to the left of "core", liabilities to the right. Link width represents absolute stock sizes for the end of the selected period. Total change or compound annual growth since 2013 Q4 are represented by colours. Green edges have increased in value, red ones decreased. The intensity of colour reflects the magnitude of change. Small links can be filtered out using the slider. Ratio comparisons in the analysis section can be made by clicking the relevant nodes. Clicking on a node will also compute the Herfindahl index for this level of the balance sheet.
